DG is looking for students interested in a summer experience at the Brandywine SPCA (New Castle County Location).
BVSPCA Opportunities Include:
- Administration Volunteer: Looking to help animals but can’t work directly with them? Work with the Administration Team by helping to keep our database organized and files up to date.
- Adoption Specialist: Work with the Adoption Counselors at the front to help process adoptions and provide exemplary customer service. First impressions are everything so be sure to provide a warm welcome to potential adopters before introducing them to our furry companions!
- Animal Health Center Volunteer: Help our Medical Team by building surgical packs for the spay & neuter services, help monitor & sooth animals in our recovery room, and help keep the animal health center organized throughout the day.
- Dog & Cat Volunteer: Work directly with our animals by socializing, training and of course loving on them. In addition, volunteer to work directly with the animals will help maintain the cleanliness of all spaces with animals. Training will be completed during orientation and additional training will on-going as we know that there is always room for improvements.
- Community Event Volunteer: Be an advocate for our animals by taking them to community events that the BVSPCA books throughout the year. Animals approved for these events are the best of the best: behavior has been evaluated to be good with other animals and they love all people/age groups.
- Humane Education: Help educate the youth in our community and cultivate compassion through education outreach. We work with local schools, clubs, and businesses to provide a fun and educational visit, weekly, biweekly, monthly or annually. It is never too early to provide kids with a safe place to learn about being the best pet owner they can be and a responsible young adult.
- Junior Volunteer: Building programs to cultivate compassionate young adults is key to have future advocates for animals in our community. If you are between the ages of 8-12 you can volunteer at the BVSPCA by submitting an online application and attending orientation with a chaperone that will be with you every step of the way (chaperon must be 18 years+ and also be a volunteer). Walk dogs, socialize cats, and be the best companion for our animals while they wait for their forever homes.
- Marketing Volunteer: Do you have an eye for capturing beauty? Help our marketing team get our animals out into the community through visual arts! Photography, videography, and featured pets bios are all amazing forms of generating a buzz and highlighting some of the amazing fur balls in our care. Additional training can be scheduled for volunteers looking to join this group!
- Pet Food Assistance Program: Help out on one of pet food assistance days, we provide free pet food, treats and sometimes medical service free of charge to help keep that animal in their home instead of being surrendered to a shelter. All of this is made possible through donations to our pet food assistance program and a true means to keeping animals in homes.
- S.A.F.E Program: Enrichment is not just for animals, join our dedicated group of volunteers and bring some joy to residents of assisted living facilities and retirement homes. Volunteers will bring 2-4 puppies to these communities and give all residents an hour of playtime to help enrich not only their lives but the lives of the animals in our care.
- Critter Camp Program: Humane education never looked so good! Join our summer camp program and learn how to be the best pet owner you can possibly be. Camp is filled with 20 campers each week, has guest speakers that specialize in animal rehabilitation or service like: therapy dogs, K-9 police dogs, exotic animals, bird rescues, etc. You can also become a camp counselor for those interested in education to learn more about facilitating a summer program (counselors must be 15+)
- Photography: Help us take adoptable photographs of our animals to update animal profiles on our website. Volunteers are welcome to capture a wide variety of photographs of our animals for us to use on social media.
- Creative Writing: Have a knack for creative writing? Help us write appealing biographies for all our animals that are patiently waiting for their forever homes.
To apply, students must submit a complete Universal Internship Application to the JDG New Castle County High School Supervisor, Mrs. Laurie Fuski at lfuski@jdginc.org.
