1989 Smyrna JDG Grad David Yonker Shares Some Advice

I have had many experiences since graduating from High School, some good and some bad, but at the end of the day, each experience was a lesson learned and another milestone which guided me to where I am today. Jobs for Delaware Graduates is a program in which I participated it during my senior year of high school and is a program which I believe in because it helps students who are not sure of which direction they are going to take build a foundation on which to grow.

To Students getting ready to join the work force I would like to advise them that any job is a good job and to never be ashamed to work at a place that is ” below you.” You may not like working in a fast food place or might even feel a little embarrassed because of how fast food employees and stereotyped and stigmatized, but that very job, and the experience which you acquire will help you in the long run, It will establish a solid and consistent work history so that someday you will get the job you desire and get where you want to be in life.

Not everyone is made for college, and there is nothing wrong with learning a trade. In my life whenever go somewhere, I will show a janitor the same respect as I would a Doctor or Lawyer. With that being said, I wish each and everyone of you the best and remember, the only one who can ever stop you is …you.
