NEWARK, DE – On Friday, December 14, 2018, Jobs for Delaware Graduates, Inc. (JDG) announced the official launch of its C.O.R.E. Internship Program with leading partners, Christiana Care Health System.

C.O.R.E. (Creating Opportunities through Real Experiences), is designed to advance JDG’s 12th-grade curriculum through a combination of in-class projects and on-site job training. “This year marks our 40th year of helping students to achieve success. What better way to celebrate than to highlight our commitment to preparing the next generation of young professionals,” says JDG President Nicole Poore.

Combined with school-based learning, C.O.R.E. pairs students with job shadowing, internship, and co-op opportunities to help demonstrate practical applications for academic learning and prepare students for college and careers beyond graduation. The goals of the program are to improve work-based skills, help youth develop positive work attitudes, and prepare students for a successful transition from classrooms to careers. Students who complete the C.O.R.E. Program will develop the passion and skillsets to compete for jobs, college, and scholarships on a higher level.

To date, Christiana Care Health System has provided training for JDG participants interested in Culinary Arts and most recently, exposure to careers in Oncology, Clinical Engineering, Pharmaceuticals, and Rehabilitation Services. JDG has also piloted the program with one of the state’s largest employment agencies, Integrity Staffing Solutions, to provide exposure to students who are interested in Human Resources and the Customer Service industry. With the help of administration from William Penn and Thomas McKean High Schools, the C.O.R.E. model can now be replicated at various institutions throughout Delaware. JDG hopes to expand the C.O.R.E. Program to reach industries that provide an array of career opportunities for student participants.
