JDG Students at AIMS “Make the Heart Smile”

The Jobs for Delaware Graduates — Students in Action Organization at A. I. DuPont Middle School (AIMS) began the school year and the giving season with a Smiling Heart!  AIMS participated in a joint community service activity with Cab Calloway’s Interact Club on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, in the AIMS library.

Mrs. Pipkin-Perry, a JDG Education Specialist at AIMS, met Jacquelyn Janocha this past June at her sorority’s annual scholarship luncheon, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  – Zeta Omega Chapter.  Jacquelyn, a rising senior at Cab Calloway, at the time, received a $2,000.00 award for her academic excellence, leadership and character, and her community service involvement.  Jacqueline founded for the Interact Club at Cab, an organization entitled “Make the Heart Smile.”

Mrs. Pipkin-Perry, Jacquelyn, and Jacquelyn’s mother, Mrs. Debbie Janocha, met over the summer and planned this phenomenal activity. It was a perfect collaboration between the middle school and the high school.

Mrs. Debbie Janocha is the backbone of “Make the Heart Smile.”  As a cancer survivor herself,  she compassionately strives to give back to patients of the Helen Graham Cancer Center in Newark.  She donated 400 beautiful and unique Christmas gifts, tissue paper, gift bags, and very caring note cards; that the members of both organizations signed.  Mrs. Janocha dropped off more than 375 gift bags the following day to the Helen Graham Cancer Center. The remainder of the 200 gift bags were donated to a couple of other charitable centers.

There were 17 Cab Interact members and 14 AIMS Students in Action members present for this phenomenal after-school activity.
