Students Who Care: Emma’s Art Cart

“After being diagnosed with a brain tumor at a young age, Emma Stumpf went through 70 weeks of chemotherapy, 6 weeks of radiation, and over a dozen brain surgeries. During that time, she turned to art to help express her feelings. She used yellow paint when she was happy, blue paint when she was sad, and clay when she felt angry. That experience inspired Emma to start this project when she was 7 years old.”

Students in Jobs for Delaware Graduates have joined forces with the Jefferson Awards Foundation LEAD 360, to help Emma reach her goal of providing art supplies to children across the country.

For several weeks, JDGers have been collecting materials and leaving words of inspiration in each bag to encourage children experiencing difficult times to never give up. During the month of December, 6 JDG programs activated Emma’s Art Cart, collecting more than 1,350 items used to create 450 bags. Emma’s Art Kits were donated to children at the Nemours Hospital, St. Anthony’s Learning Center, Milford Multicultural Center, The Shepherd Place, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Delaware.
