The Art of Barbering | Mr. Andrew Johnson, owner of Atmosphere Barbershop & Salon in Middletown (DE) and Elkton (MD), stopped by Positive Outcomes Charter to speak with students about life as an entrepreneur. During his visit, Mr. Johnson conveyed his passion for the art of barbering and sports as he shared with students his core keys to success. He discussed the importance of professionalism, proper technique, and customer service while drawing a direct correlation between business and basketball. “My barbers have to be team players. They must be able to assist, by helping out the team during difficult times and be a good shooter by stepping up to tackle a difficult cut when needed.”
Mr. Johnson has been cutting hair since the age of 14, when his sister bought him his first pair of clippers. After completing his apprenticeship, Mr. Johnson decided to become a full-time barber and created a life that affords him the lifestyle he desires and the ability to help others. His time in the industry has created meaningful opportunities, including sharing with former Governor Jack Markell the basics of barbering and the importance of supporting small businesses in Delaware.
Mr. Johnson is a Dover High School graduate (’95) and attended the University of Delaware where he received his bachelors and master’s in Business Administration & Finance.
