Paving the Way: Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester

On Wednesday, February 21st, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL), stopped by to visit JDGers at Concord High School.

In conjunction with the Concord (H.S.) Art Club, our JDG students created a showcase entitled, Paving the Way, to highlight notable figures during Black History Month. The students selected two figures from Business, Entertainment, Politics, Science, and Sports in recognition of their selfless contributions to society. Among the legends, was Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, who was selected as a political figure who’s made a significant impact in the local community.

Lisa Blunt Rochester […is] “the first woman and first African-American to be elected to Congress from Delaware. She was [also] the first black woman to serve as Delaware’s Secretary of Labor, and as Delaware’s first African-American Deputy Secretary of Health and Social Services and State Personnel Director.

To show her appreciation, the Congresswoman visited our students to personally thank them for the recognition and to spend some time getting to know the students.
